  1. Above requirements are the minimum requirements for a 3-5 user typical workload.
  2. Actual requirements may vary based on your product configuration, high availability requirements and work load.
  3. Running GINESYS on less than minimum system configuration will have adverse effects on performance.
  4. It is recommended to run GINESYS on good quality branded servers and not on assembled servers.
  5. Desktop operating systems are strictly not supported on Server.
  6. Lower versioned operating systems than mentioned for Server and Workstation are strictly not supported. E.g. Windows 2003, Windows 2008 on Server, Windows XP/Vista on desktop will not be supported.
  7. Service packs and updates as released by Microsoft from time to time should be updated on systems on a regular basis
  8. Anti-Virus and Network Security software if installed on the server will have to be configured and maintained by the customer so that necessary communications to and from GINESYS Server is allowed. GINESYS support if anticipates that any issue is being caused by such third party software may request the client to uninstall the concerned software while working on the ticket.

List of communications to and from GINESYS Server

  1. OUTBOUND to Web Database (hosted by Customer or GINESYS) typically on TCP Port 1443
  2. OUTBOUND to GSL Licensing Server (lc.ginesys.co.in) typically on non-default SQL Server Port 51433
  3. OUTBOUND to GSL Patch Update Server (update1.ginesys.in / update2.ginesys.in) on ACTIVE Mode FTP port 21

IMPORTANT

Important Notes regarding enabling IIS:

Note: Depending upon the Operating Software (OS) you use, some of these prerequisites may already be present in your system. However, please check out if each of the prerequisites are already enabled or installed.

Note: The servers must be 64 bit machines by default but terminals may be 32 bit or 64 bit as required. However, if any of your terminals run on Windows 10 then the machine has to be a 64 bit one.

Note:GINESYS has provided a batch file for automatic installation of IIS if it is not installed in your intended machine. This .bat file can be found at the following location:

(Root directory of your installation CD or DVD)/IISConfig/InstallIIS.exe

In case the installer cannot run for some reason, please note that you must enable IIS through Server Roles option in the Add Roles Wizard; if you are running Windows 2008 / Windows 2008R2 / Windows 2012 for servers.

Please follow the illustrations given below:

IIS has to be mandatorily enabled for GINESYS V11.100.0 because presently, only the Retail, Web Services and Shipment tracking related operations are running through IIS. But modules which are running in D2k platform are going to be converted gradually into Web platform in near future. So, it would be safe to configure the IIS from day one.

It is important to note that ASP.NET under IIS feature must be enabled in both servers and terminals.

The v11.100.0 can either be newly installed in a system or be migrated from an old one, below are given the steps for making new installations as well as migrating from previous version.

There are also a few steps which need to be executed for both new installations and migrating from previous versions creating a new database and finally migrating from previous versions keeping the existing database.

Note: During GINESYS installation only the 'WebServer (IIS)' role is to be checked.

New Installations

Oracle 12c Standard Edition must be installed previously if it is a fresh installation or the database is being migrated to a newer upgrade. Please remember to check for previous Oracle installations if any and uninstall them first.

Migrating from previous versions creating a new database

You may wish to create a new Oracle 12c database in the interests of enhanced performance. In that case follow the steps given below to uninstall the previous database.

IMPORTANT

Note: When you are migrating from previous versions, you must go through the process of deleting or uninstalling the previous GINESYS Software if you are migrating from a lower version to v11.100.0.

Taking back-up and checking it is mandatory; before uninstallation of software.

  1. You must uninstall the previous GINESYS version from Add/Remove Programmes.
  2. Delete the GINESYS folder structure from the drive where you have installed it.
  3. Delete all GINESYS related schedulers from the command prompt (cmd) with the command <<sc delete <name of scheduler>>>. The list of services run in GINESYS are given below:
    1. GINESYS Scheduler Service
    2. GINESYS SMS Service
    3. GINESYS Email Service
    4. GINESYS Licensing Service
    5. GINESYS Planning Service
  4. Delete the previous ODAC (Oracle Data Access Components) 11g by executing the following steps:
    1. Open Command Prompt; remember to run it as Administrator.
    2. Locate the folder where ODAC has been installed (eg: c:\ODAC64).
    3. Once the cursor changes, run the command c:\ODAC64 uninstall.bat all odac (Note that “odac” over here is the home name, the same name used while installing ODAC). This uninstalls all the components.
  5. Delete the previous ODAC (Oracle Data Access Components) 10g by executing the following steps:
    1. Uninstall all Oracle components using the Oracle Universal Installer (OUI).
    2. Run regedit.exe and delete the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Oracle key. This contains registry entries for all Oracle products.
    3. If you are running 64-bit Windows, you should also delete the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Wow6432Node/Oracle key if it exists.
    4. Delete any references to Oracle services left behind in the following part of the registry (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Services/Ora*). It should be pretty obvious which ones relate to Oracle.
    5. Reboot your machine.
    6. Delete the "C:\Oracle" directory, or whatever directory is your ORACLE_BASE.
    7. Delete the "C:\Program Files\Oracle" directory.
    8. If you are running 64-bit Windows, you should also delete the "C:\Program Files (x86)\Oracle" directory.
    9. Remove any Oracle-related subdirectories from the “C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\" directory.
    10. Empty the contents of your "C:\temp" directory.

Migrating from previous versions keeping the existing database

Otherwise, if the existing 10g database has to be maintained, the 10g database can exist as it is, provided the OS involved is Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008.

IMPORTANT

Note: that you must have ODAC 12c even if your database 10g

Note: When you are migrating from previous versions, you must go through the process of deleting or uninstalling the previous GINESYS Software if you are migrating from a lower version to V11.100.0.

  1. Taking back-up (especially of environment variables) and checking it is mandatory; before uninstallation of software.
  2. You must uninstall the previous GINESYS version from Add/Remove Programs.
  3. Delete the GINESYS folder structure from the drive where you have installed it.
  4. Delete all GINESYS related schedulers from the command prompt (cmd) with the command <<sc delete <name of scheduler>>>. The list of services run in GINESYS are given below:
    1. GINESYS Scheduler Service
    2. GINESYS SMS Service
    3. GINESYS Email Service
    4. GINESYS Licensing Service
    5. GINESYS Planning Service
  5. Delete the previous ODAC (Oracle Data Access Components) 10g by executing the following steps:
    1. In the command prompt (cmd) type <<cd <drive where ODAC is existing>\ODAC64>>
    2. In the current drive i.e. <drive where ODAC is existing>\ODAC64 – type <<uninstall all ODAC>>
    3. Similarly change drive for ODAC32, and uninstall it.
  6. Go to Regedit>>software>>wow64>>oracle and delete odp.net file
  7. Restart the System
  8. Run the Server Pack Setup from the CD
  9. Run Getting Started
    1. Choose option “I have connected to an existing database
    2. Ensure that your test connection is successful
  10. Generate License request from license manager and mail key to license@gsl.in
  11. Activate license from License Manager
    1. Search online for the key and accept and then check POS users
  12. If you get a connection problem to the Primary Database then open the License manager and define the domain in the last tab.
  13. Start the License service and wait for 30 seconds
  14. Run HO AutoUpdate
    1. Stop all services from the Services and Processes tab
    2. Update till latest
  15. Open software location
    1. Locate Webdb updater
    2. Run webdb update
  16. Now your software is ready for use.
