Ginesys releases regular updates of its HO application containing new features and bug fixes. The Auto-update feature allows Ginesys users to update their software easily and precisely.
Alert - Run AutoUpdate from Desktop Shortcut
Note: Remember, you must run the auto-update from Desktop Shortcut, created at the time of installation of Ginesys. If the desktop shortcut is not available, only then follow the steps below.
To add the Auto Update shortcut to your Desktop, follow the steps:
Go to <Installation Drive>:\GSL\GINESYS12\Shared
'Shared' folder will open. Please search for the auto update in the Search box
There are two files, HOAutoUpdate.exe and HOAutoUpdate.exe.config. Since the common file extensions are not displayed the files will appear as 'HOAutoUpdate' and 'HOAutoUpdate.exe'. Right click on HOAutoUpdate and click on the Create Shortcut option.
Alert - You cannot update Ginesys from HOAutoUpdate2
Note: You must not create a HOAutoUpdate2 desktop shortcut. Ginesys application cannot be updated by HOAutoUpdate2.
How to Update Database?
Pre-requisites
The updates must be available.
Proper download source must be selected.
No other user must be logged in to the system during the update.
The application files must not be used by any other application during the update.
Steps:
The steps are as follows:
Click on the Update Database tab.
Click on the Check For Updates button.
All services must be stopped after being prompted on checking for updates.
The available updates will be displayed in the grid.
Select the updates by ticking on the checkboxes provided beside each update.
And click on the Apply Selected Updates button.
If you start the update from Update Database tab, then the system will automatically go to Update Software tab.
How to Update Software?
During 'Software Update' a message box appears before copying the files to installation location. User needs to acknowledge that.
Steps:
Click on the Update Software tab.
Click on the Start Download button.

Note: All services must be stopped before starting the download.
You can see the progress of the download in the Download progress section. You will also notice the progress of the application of the program in the Apply progress section.
Once the downloading and the application of the updates is complete, restart all the stopped services and click on the Close button.
How to Update Dependency Files?
During 'Dependency Update' a message box appears before copying the files to installation location. User needs to acknowledge that.
Steps:
Click on Update Dependency Files tab.
Click on the Download All Files checkbox.
Click on Start Download button

You will see the files being downloaded one by one.
Once all files are downloaded, click on Close button.
A dialog box appears asking if you want start the services. If you want to start the services, then click on Yes or click No.
Click on Close button again.
How to apply Custom Patch?
Custom patches are mainly used for data rectification or data alteration. These patches are customized for a particular user, in cases of issues which won't necessarily be faced by others. Such patches are not released through the general releases. Such patches are generally sent to HO beforehand via mail. It is recommended to download the patch file from there and make a note of the location.
Steps:
Click on the Custom Patch tab.
Click on the Browse button. This opens the Open window.
Go to the location of the downloaded patch file. Select the file and click on the Open button.
Elements of HO AutoUpdateElements Figure Update Database Grid view Select- This is a checkbox which allows you to select the version you want your system to get updated to.
Version- This field displays the version number.
CP- CP stands for Compatibility. It is a marker, used by the HO AutoUpdate to update to a version comaptible with POS.
Release Date- This field displays the date on which the particular has been released.
Status- This shows current status of the update. It shows whether the update has been downloaded and applied or is in progess.
Release Note- This field carries the link to the release note for the particular version. It contains the details of the improvements made and the bugs fixed.
Check for Updates (Button) This button helps you to check for all the available updates. The new updates are displayed in the grid view. Apply Selected Updates (Button) This button allows you to update your system with the updates selected in the grid view.
IMPORTANT
Ginesys requires mandatory installlation of certain third party software as a pre-requisite. Ginesys Head-Office Updater (version 10 onward ) has been equipped with a new feature, Pre-requisite checks failed. This tool allows you to silently install the required third party software if the HO Updater does not find it installed in the system.
On clicking the Apply Selected Updates button, if any of the pre-requisite software is missing, it will be detected and the Pre-requisite checks failed window will open up.
The left pane shows -
- The version whose update failed due to absence of pre-requisite software
- The Requirement column shows the pre-requisite software not found
- The Status column shows the status of availability of pre-requisite software in the system to be updated and at the time of first display will necessarily be Failed.
The right pane shows -
- Details of the pre-requisite software to be installed.
- The View Article button allows users to look up available knowledge-base article on pre-requisite software
- The Install button silently installs tthe required software at the correct location and turns the Status column in the left pane to Passed.
The Close button closes the tool.
Note: Ginesys cannot be updated until all Failed status becomes Passed after installation of required software.
Status section The status section displays the number of updates available and the number off updates available.

Update Dependency Files Name This field displays the name of the file that is being downloaded or has been downloaded. Last Modified This field displays the last date and time of the last update of the currently selected file. Size This shows the size of the file that is being downloaded. Status This field shows the current status of the files. It may display downloading (if the files are being downloaded) or downloaded (if downloading is complete). Download All Files (Checkbox) This checkbox, if selected, allows you to download all the third party dependent files. Check For Updated Files (Button) This button allows you to view the updated files. Start Download (Button) This button helps you to start download of the files.

Services and Processes Select This column contains the checkboxes to select the service you want to start / stop. Name
Here you can see the names of all the services that are running / stopped. Status This column displays the current status of the service - Running or Stopped. Buttons Start All Services - This button is used to start the stopped services.
Stop All Services - This button is used to stop the running services.
Kill All Processes - Using this button, you can stop all the currently running processes.
Start Sharing - This button helps to enable folder sharing.
Stop Sharing - This button helps to disable folder sharing.
Checkbox Select All Services - This checkbox allows you select all the services at once instead of selecting them separately. Tools Download Update Paths There are three (3) download update paths here:
Downloaded Database Updates Path - Here you can see the location where all the downloaded Database updates will be stored.
Downloaded Software Updates Path - This enables you to view the location of the downloaded Software updates.
Downloaded Third Party Updates Path - This field displays the location of the downloaded Third Party updates.
Open (Button) - The Open button beside each path, opens the location where the respective update files will be stored after download.
Database Script Run Output Path This enables you to view the location of the database scriptoutput. Connection Timeout This is a spinner field which helps you to increase or decrease the number and adjust the duration of time after which the connection shall be timed out. Database This is a display only field. Here you can see the name of your host and your database. Download Mirror This field displays the different locations from which you can download the updates.There are 4 options available:
Mirror 1 - Using this option you can directly download updates from Ginesys.
Mirror 2 - This option also allows you to download updates from Ginesys.
Mirror 3 - This option lets you download the update using Amazon Web Service (AWS).
Downloader In Use This display field shows the location of the updates that are being downloaded. This depends on the selection made in the Download Mirror option. SQL Plus Accessible SQL Plus is an ORACLE utility. It helps to execute the database update. It generally displays the value Yes. If it is displays No, then the file might be downloaded but the patch would not be executed. Go to Updating Ginesys POS Application to update POS applications.
