SYMPTOMS

An error occurred while trying to restore POS backup using DBRestore.exe utility ,the following message appears on screen.

Web Database connection failed.
Error:
A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL server. The server was not found or was not accessible.

CAUSE

The issue is happening in POS server while trying to restore POS backup. During restore process DBRestore.exe tool tries to extract details and check connectivity of POS local database as well as web database along with data state from the latest backup file set. If the tool is unable to connect Web database then the above error message appears.

  • Web database connection details information is incorrect.

  • Unable to connect Web database due to network issues.

RESOLUTION

CHECK 1: 

  • Confirm Web database connection details information is accurate. If not then take a fresh WebDB configuration file from HO and set it all accordingly using WebDBlocator.exe utility.

HO Web → Retail Management → Utilities → Web Database → Click on Action button → Click on Create Current Configuration file.

CHECK 2: 

  • Step to check the connection of Web database from POS server system. Web database might be configured locally or by other vendor, so the connection from POS server should be checked using telnet command. Open CMD and type the below command. Note: If Telnet feature is not enabled , then enable it from Windows Features.

    telnet <WebDB name/IP> 1433

  • If not connected then we need to request client to use alternate internet connection or contact with their network team or ISP.
