Setting up a POS terminal

POS terminals must be properly configured for billing and back office performance. This article shows how to set up a POS terminal, its configuration may be modified if needed.

Pre-requisites

  1. License allocation from the ERP end for the POS site to accommodate additional POS users for the new POS terminal (Related article: Using License Manager #POS License Allocation)

  2. Create a POS user login to be used on the Terminal system.

  3. Sharing is enabled for GINESYS POS directory

    1. Open Windows Explorer.

    2. Locate the C:\Program Files (x86)\GSL folder.

    3. Right-click on GINESYS POS > Share with (or Give access to in some Windows versions) > Specific People.

    4. Type Everyone and click Add.

    5. Click Share.

    6. Click Done when the sharing is complete.

    7. Your GINESYS POS application folder is now shared.

  6. Install Crystal Report runtime on POS terminal (Crystal Runtime download: Common Downloads)

Step-by-step guide

Follow the given steps to map the terminals to GINESYS POS Server:

  1. From POS terminal open the POS Server folder share.

    1. E.g. if your POS Server names is Server1, go to Windows Run (Windows + R keys), type \\Server1 and hit Enter.
      OR 

    2. Open Windows Explorer and give \\Server1 in the folder navigation box at the top 

  2. Locate GINESYS POS shared folder and right click on that.

  3. Click Map network drive. The Map network drive window would open up.

  4. Select one of the virtual drives available and click Finish.

  5. A new drive will appear in the Computer.

  6. Double click and open the new drive.

  7. Locate NPOS.exe ( You may see the file as NPOS without extension as by default in Windows common extensions are being hidden.)

  8. Right click the file and select Send to Desktop option. A shortcut would be created on the desktop.

  9. Right click the POS icon and select Run as Administrator. It should now open the POS application. 

  10. Now you need to feed the mapping information in the server. For that open POS application on POS Server with login with admin privilege. 

  11. Now, go to POS Terminals under Administration section. 

  12. In the right hand side, locate and space where the terminal names appear, edit the new Terminal. 

  13. Put in the necessary details in the Terminal tab and the Report tab as shown below.

     



  14. Click OK to save changes and exit.

  15. Return to POS terminal. Logout and re-login to ensure the settings are enabled.

IMPORTANT

Note: Billing operations in GINESYS cannot be done without Crystal Reports. So download and run the Crystal Reports 10.5 and 13.0 respectively from the following links:
