How To: Close session through POS Tasks menu

After every financial transaction in a POS terminal or till, user or cashier needs to log out from the session in which he was working. This is done to keep the POS transactions secure. This helps keeping track of all transactions done within the scope of it. Where multi-shift POS operations are present, typically each cashier works in his own session and hands over the terminal to the next cashier by closing his session and transferring all cash balance to the next person. Even if there is no multi shift POS operation, it is highly recommended that each cashier works in his own session by creating a session when he logs in and closing the same while he is leaving the terminal or till. GINESYS POS does not allow any financially sensitive operation in the POS unless a previous session is closed and a new session is started.

This article describes how to close a session in POS.

Pre-requisites

  1. The users' role must have access to the Close Session app operation in Admin - Security - Role - Security Role - <User's role > - Access Rights - Normal POS.

  2. The Opening and Closing amount needs to be entered before closing the session.

Note: Without entering the Opening and Closing Amount, you cannot close a session. However, users who have the right for Close Session (Blind), can do so.

Step-by-step guide

The steps are as follows:

  1. Open the Tasks menu (or press the F5 key).

  2. Click on the Close Session option.

Note: Please remember, it is a good practice to enter opening amount at the time of creating the session. If you haven't entered the Opening and Closing Amount, an alert message appears asking you to enter those at the time of closing session. Enter Opening Amount and Enter Closing Amount before close the session.

  3. A dialog box appears asking you if  you want to close the current session. If you want to close the session then click on Yes or otherwise, click No.

  4. "Session closed successfully" - message is displayed.

  5. Click on OK.
