How To: Check web database connectivity from GINESYS POS

The 'web database' is the database component in GINESYS that in most cases is hosted outside the core GINESYS infrastructure for high availability and speed. The web database is a SQL Server 2008 R2 or higher versioned database which acts as a transient data store between HO and POS stores. It also stores the tables for Global Credit Notes, Customers, Loyalty Point Redemptions, Gift Voucher Redemptions. Having a high-speed and high-availability connection to the web database is important for smooth operations of GINESYS. However, often it is found that connections to the web database is not available due to:

  1. No Internet
  2. Unstable Internet
  3. Interception by Firewall / Anti-Virus software

This article will help you to detect if there is any issue in web database connectivity.

Step-by-step guide

GINESYS POS:

Follow the steps given below to check the web database connectivity from software from GINESYS POS:

Find the Web Database Locator by typing the following path in Windows Explorer - C:\Program Files (x86)\GSL\GINESYS POS\WebDatabaseLocator.exe
or Right click the GINESYS POS icon > Open File Location > Find the Web Database Locator Utility among the application files.

Double click on the Web Database Locator Utility.

In the Web Database Locator, click on Test Connection.

It will tell you if the connection is successful.
