"License Service is either not installed or not running. Please use Database Locator utility from server to resolve your issue."-Error is displayed while trying to login in POS application

SYMPTOMS


The following message appears on screen while user tries to login into the POS application

License Service is either not installed or not running. Please use Database Locator utility from server to resolve your issue

CAUSE


Scenario 1

The issue happens in all systems, including Ginesys POS application server.

Probable Cause:

  • Settings in Ginesys POS License Manager have incorrect values of Server name and port.

  • Ginesys POS License Service is not installed in POS server.

  • Ginesys POS License Service is installed but not in running state.

  • Ginesys POS License Service blocked by any antivirus application.

Scenario 2

The issue happens in all terminal systems, except Ginesys POS application server.

Probable Cause:

  • Firewall of Ginesys POS server system blocks the inbound requests to Ginesys License service via port 9000 or 9001.

  • Settings in Ginesys POS License Manager have incorrect credentials.

Scenario 3

The issue happens in one or some terminal systems but it works properly on other terminal systems & POS application server.

Probable Cause:

  • Network connectivity issue may occur between POS server & those terminal systems.

  • Antivirus application in terminal system may restricts POS license service communication between POS server & that terminal system.

RESOLUTION


CHECK 1:

Set POS server system details along with system user account & its password in POS License manager settings.

Steps:

  • Open Ginesys POS License manager.

  • Select the “settings” tab.

  • Put License service port 9000 or 9001.

  • Provide system name, admin user name & password in Domain configuration properly.

  • Save & Close.

CHECK 2:

  • Open windows service manager & check POS License service is installed or not & it is running or not.

  • If not then install POS License service from POS installation folder using DatabaseLocator.exe & start the same.

CHECK 3:

  • Add an inbound rule for Ginesys POS License service port for accessibility through Windows Firewall in POS server if previously it is not done.

CHECK 4:

  • Temporarily disable antivirus in the terminal system then test port connectivity using Telnet command.

  • Steps to check Telnet is getting connected or not.

    • Ex: ( Open command prompt and type - Telnet <POS server IP address> <9000> ).

  • If telnet is happening properly then inform client to rectify antivirus settings from their end after describing the root cause.
