"SQL Server cannot process this media family.RESTORE FILELIST is terminating abnormally."-Error while load the.bak files in POS DBRestore.exe Utility.

SYMPTOMS

POS DBRestore.exe utility is used to restore backup files (.bak file set) for POS Database . While we browse the .bak file in DBRestore.exe utility and it tries to load Data Exchange information, error appears on Screen as follows.

"SQL Server cannot process this media family. RESTORE FILELIST is terminating abnormally."

CAUSE

  • POS Backup (.bak file set) was taken in Advanced version of SQL server application but when the same backup is trying restore in lower version of SQL Server Application, this error occurs.

RESOLUTION

  • Need to install same SQL server version or higher version with respect to version of SQL server backup files ( POS Backup files ).
