How To: Update Ginesys HO using Auto Update

Ginesys releases regular updates of its HO application containing new features and bug fixes. The Auto-update feature allows Ginesys users to update their software easily and precisely.

Alert - Run AutoUpdate from Desktop Shortcut

Note: Remember, you must run the auto-update from Desktop Shortcut, created at the time of installation of Ginesys. If the desktop shortcut is not available, only then follow the steps below. 

To add the Auto Update shortcut to your Desktop, follow the steps:

  1. Go to <Installation Drive>:\GSL\GINESYS12\Shared

  2. 'Shared' folder will open. Please search for the auto update in the Search box

  3. There are two files, HOAutoUpdate.exe and HOAutoUpdate.exe.config. Since the common file extensions are not displayed the files will appear as 'HOAutoUpdate' and 'HOAutoUpdate.exe'. Right click on HOAutoUpdate and click on the Create Shortcut option.







How to Update Database?

Pre-requisites
  1. The updates must be available.

  2. Proper download source must be selected.

  3. No other user must be logged in to the system during the update.

  4. The application files must not be used by any other application during the update.

Grid View

Select - This is a checkbox that allows you select versions you want your system to get updated to.

Version - This field displays the version number of the updates.

CP - CP stands for Compatibility, a marker used by the HO AutoUpdate to update to a version compatible with POS

Release Date - This field displays the date on which the particular version was released.

Web CP - A marker used by the HO AutoUpdate to update to a version compatible with the Web DB

Check for Updates (button)

This button allows you to check for all the available updates. The new updates are displayed in the grid view

Apply Selected Updates (button)

This button allows you to update your system with the database updates selected in the grid view.

IMPORTANT

Ginesys requires the mandatory installation of certain third party software as a prerequisite. Ginesys ERP Updater (version 10 onwards) has been equipped with a new feature, Prerequisites check failed. This tool allows silent installation of the required third party software if the ERP Updater does not find it installed in the system.

On clicking, the Apply Selected Updates button, if any of the prerequisite software is missing, it will be detected and the Prerequisites check failed window will open up.

The left pane shows -

  1. The version whose update failed due to absence of prerequisite software.

  2. The Requirement column shows the prerequisite software not found.

  3. The Status column shows the status of availability of prerequisite software in the system to be updated and at the time of first display will necessarily be Failed.

The right pane shows -

  1. Details of the prerequisite software to be installed.

  2. The View Article button allows users to look up available knowledgebase article on prerequisite software.

  3. The Install button silently installs the correct software at the correct location and turns the Status column in the left pane to Passed.

The Close button closes the tool.

Note: Ginesys cannot be updated until all Failed status becomes Passed after installation of required software.

Status Section

The status section displays the number of updates available and the number of updates available.

Update Software

 

Start Download (button)

The Start Download button allows you to download the selected software updates.

 

Update Dependency Files

 

Name

This field displays the name of the file that is being downloaded, or has been downloaded.

Last Modified

This field displays the last time and date of the last update of the currently selected file.

Size

This shows the size of the downloading file.

Status

This field shows the current status of the files. It may display “downloading” (if the files are downloading) and “downloaded” (if downloading is complete).

Download all Files (checkbox)

This checkbox, if selected, allows you to download all the dependent third party files.

Check for Updated Files (button)

This button allows the updated files to be displayed.

Start Download (button)

This button starts the download of selected files.

Custom Patch

 

Select Custom Patch

This feature allows you to select a custom patch and apply when needed.

Browse

The Browse button opens a window for selection from a list of available patches.

Apply Custom Patch

Apply Custom Patch button allows the selection of the applied patch(es).

Services and Processes

 

 

Select

This column contains the checkboxes to select the service that needs to started or stopped

Name

This column shows the Name of the service to be started or stopped.

Status

This column shows the current state of the service - Running or Stopped.

Buttons

Start All Services - This button is used to start all stopped services.

Stop All Services - This button is used to stop all running services.

Kill All Processes - Using this button, you can stop all currently running processes

Start Sharing - This button enables folder sharing

Stop Sharing - This button disables folder sharing.

Checkbox

Select All Services - This checkbox, if selected, allows all services to be selected at once.

Download Update Paths

There are three (3) download paths here -

Downloaded Database Updates Path - This is the storage location of the downloaded database updates.

Downloaded Software Updates Path - This is the storage location of the downloaded software updates.

Downloaded Third Party Updates Path - This is the storage location of the downloaded third party updates.

Open (button) - The Open button, beside each path, opens the location where the respective downloaded files are stored.

Database Script Run Output Path

This shows where the database script output will be shown.

Connection Timeout

This is a spinner field which helps you to increase and decrease the number and adjust the duration of time after which the connection will be timed out.

Database

This is a display only field, where you can view the names of your host and database.

Download Mirror

This shows the different locations it can be downloaded from - there are 3 options available.

Mirror 1 - Using this option you can directly download updates from Ginesys.

Mirror 2 - This option also allows you to download updates from Ginesys.

Mirror 3 - This option lets you download the update using Amazon Web Service (AWS).

Downloader In Use

This display field shows the location of the updates that are being downloaded. This depends on the selection made in the Download Mirror option.

SQL Plus Accessible

SQL Plus is an Oracle utility. It helps to execute database updates. It generally displays the value Yes. If it displays No, then the file might be downloaded but the patch would not be executed.
